FAS Trade Term-Delivery Alongside Ship
The English term of this term is "Free Alongside ship (...named port of shipment)", that is, "Free Alongside ship (...named port of shipment)". It means that the seller delivers the goods to the side of the ship at the designated port of loading or barge. From then on, the buyer must bear all the costs and risks of loss or damage to the goods, and the seller must go through export customs clearance procedures. This term applies to sea or inland water transportation. Different from the "General Rules of 90", the "General Rules of 2000" stipulates that the risks, responsibilities, and expenses of the export declaration of goods shall be borne by the buyer.
FOB trade term-delivery on board
The term English is "Free on Board (...named port of shipment)", that is, "delivery on board (...designated port of shipment)". It means that the seller must deliver the goods to the ship designated by the buyer at the designated port of shipment within the date or period specified in the contract, and bear all costs and risks of loss or damage to the goods before the goods are safely delivered to the ship’s deck. After the goods have passed the ship’s rail, the buyer All costs, risks, loss or damage of the goods shall be borne, and the seller shall be required to go through customs clearance procedures for the export of the goods. This term applies to sea or inland water transportation.
FOB terminology variant
(1) FOBLiner Terms (FOB liner terms): The shipping costs are handled in accordance with the liner conditions. The seller is only responsible for delivering the goods to the terminal port. Loading, unloading and trimming fees are borne by the party who pays the freight-the buyer. (The seller does not have to bear the cost of loading)
(2) FOB Under Tackle (delivery under FOB hook): The seller shall bear the cost up to the hook of the vessel designated by the buyer, and all costs related to shipment shall be borne by the buyer. (The seller does not have to bear the cost of loading)
(3) FOB Stowed or FOBS (FOB includes handling/delivery on board and handling): The seller is responsible for loading the goods on the ship and paying the shipping costs including the handling fee. Mostly used for general cargo ships. (The seller shall bear the cost of loading and handling of cargo)
(4) FOB Trimmed or FOBT (FOB includes trimming/delivery on board and trimming): The seller is responsible for loading the goods on board and paying the shipping costs including trimming fees, mostly for bulk shipping. If the buyer rents an automatic trimming vessel, the seller shall refund the trimming fee. (The seller shall bear the cost of loading and leveling)
(5) FOB Stowed and Trimmed or FOBST (FOB includes trimming and trimming): The seller shall bear the costs of loading, trimming and trimming.
